Torchlight – Worthy Diablo Distraction

Posted by Connor On January - 18 - 2010

Blizzard’s highly-awaited action RPG Diablo III is a long way away, without any news for a while and no set release date (or year, even). Luckily, there are a few games out there that will hold you off until its release, one of which is Torchlight. If you’re a fan of action RPGs, this is one to check out.

Torchlight is made by Runic Games, which is a team of developers who’ve got experience in this area. The company is comprised of Travis Baldree (who created Fate), the team responsible for the on-off MMORPG Mythos, and the co-founders of Blizzard North, who were responsible for the first two Diablo games. Especially because of the last people I’ve mentioned, this game is incredibly similar to Diablo games, but with nicer graphics than the last installment. It really feels like a Diablo game.

The game runs for $20, which is pretty cheap for a brand new game (well, not brand new… It has been out since October online, but it was $20 at release, and as of January 5th it is available at retail locations). It’s worth every penny in my opinion, and it’ll run on just about anything, which is really nice. It even has a “Netbook” mode (no joke) to make it run smoothly on low-end netbooks. These guys have covered their bases to make sure their consumer base is pretty wide, and it’s paid off… Overall, Torchlight is a pretty popular game, and not without reason.

I’m not writing a review of this game right now, so I won’t go any further into detail. Check out some reviews online, but be assured, if you’re into the Diablo series and are looking for a fresh action RPG that really feels and plays like your favorite series, this is definitely one to check out.
