Will the Nintendo Wii be teaching your children at school this fall? Well, perhaps not that soon, but if Shigeru Miyamoto, has his way, it won’t be long until the popular gaming console is used for exactly that purpose and more.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the designer, who has been responsible for bringing the world the most famous gaming character to date; Super Mario, and co-creator of the popular Wii gaming console, disclosed to AP that currently his main point of focus is getting the Nintendo Wii consoles used at schools as a means to assist in the education of children. The designer sees a future for the console as an assisting tool to aid teachers, when teaching the children.
Building in educational applications in video games “is maybe the area where I am devoting myself the most” the designer of the famous gaming icon commented, when asked about his priorities, concerning the development of new games.
While being interviewed by the AP, he stated that the Wii consoles are ready for use at junior high schools and elementary school facilities, to start aiding teaching personnel, as soon as the next school session is due to start in Japan. The designer sees possibilities for the console to be used as an educational aiding tool and even as a teaching tool itself. Miyamoto also pointed out the fact that the Wii already is in use at several museums and aquariums, for similar purposes, which has worked out quite well in those areas.
The interview with the AP was held in London where the famous designer was honored by the British Media Group (BMG) for his all time accomplishments in the field. During the interview the designer disclosed his goals and visions for the Wii console in the near future.
Shigeru Miyamoto has received many prestigious awards, during his career, which predate even his time as an employee, working for Nintendo, and even before the first video game was released.
