Spelunky caught my attention initially for two reasons — for one, it was the first game selected for the Indie Gaming Club on Reddit. Plus, it’s a game about mining, and Minecraft has pretty much run my life since I discovered it, so this wouldn’t be going too far out of my recently established comfort zone.

Plus, it’s free. So I decided to give it a download, and was up and running very shortly.

When I first began, things were a bit confusing. Lacking any previous knowledge of this indie title, I was a bit thrown off by the structure of the game. I didn’t know what to expect.
Once I got that sorted out and got the hang of things, I never looked back.

The tutorial level does a pretty good job of showing you the basics. You can pick stuff up, open chests, jump, run, throw bombs, and so forth. However, once I got into the game itself, one thing kept throwing me off. I’ll save you the possible confusion (unless it’s just me) — Each time you play, the levels are randomly generated. I feel like that’s one of the things that gives this game its true beauty. Keeps it fresh, and keeps you playing for incredibly extended periods of time.

But you’ll figure that last part out yourself. Let’s move onto talking about what makes this game so great…

For one, the gameplay is relentlessly difficult and unforgiving. For some, this may be a turnoff, but I love a challenge. It takes inspiration from roguelike games in this respect, and if you die, that’s it — you’ve gotta start over. (Luckily, the randomly generated world makes it feel new each time.) It can get frustrating at times, but I feel that it makes even the smallest accomplishments feel much more monumental, and I get tons of satisfaction from completing much of anything, let alone beating my previous high score.

The basic objective of this game is to rack up as much money as you can. You’ll go around the mine, collecting gems and gold coins, each worth different amounts of money. You can change the terrain by use of timed explosives, to allow easy passage to other parts of the mine, or to access riches previously blocked off. If you find yourself needing to get to higher ground and there’s no ladder nearby, you can even toss a rope up in the air that will connect itself to the walls of the cave several feet above you and fall back down for you to climb.

The money serves little purpose other than acting as a score. Oh, except that you can buy stuff. And gamble.
There are shops set up in some levels (or all levels, maybe I just don’t see it sometimes) that allow you to buy things like extra bombs + rope, glasses that let you see hidden gems, parachutes so you can survive long falls, weapons, and so forth. Most prices are reasonable, and the items are definitely good to have. If you try to walk out of the shop holding an item you haven’t paid for, the shopkeep instantly jumps down and fires at you with a shotgun. It’s possible to escape, but not the easiest thing in the world, and you’ll spend the rest of the game looking over your shoulder. (I won’t give away too much — discovery is half the fun in this game.)
As I mentioned, you can also gamble. You’ll find areas that are set up like shops, but with two large six-sided dice. You can put up some of your money to win it back plus some, win an item, or lose everything. I normally take the chance. I’ve got a problem with videogame gambling. (Pokemon started it all…)

While the golden coins and the gems and so forth are your main sources of cash, you can also go Indiana Jones style and steal a golden artifact. However, like Indy, there is the ever-present threat of being crushed by a boulder shortly after picking up your treasure. Watch out for that.

Speaking of Indiana Jones-style traps, there are also some blocks with heads carved in them. If they see any motion in front of them, they let out a high-speed arrow that can take away two of your precious hearts. There are ways to avoid this (note: any motion), but they still get me sometimes by surprise.

And they’re not the only threat — there are different kinds of monsters for each area. In the first area alone, you’ll face snakes, neanderthals, bats, spiders, and g… Wait, no, I’ll let you figure that one out yourself.
However, keep in mind that anything you pick up is a weapon. A rock, an arrow discharged from a trap, a treasure chest… Worse comes to worst, you can just jump on them, Italian plumber style. (But that gets pretty scary once you realize the consequences of a screw-up…)
However, if you get injured, there’s still hope! You can find a helpless girl throughout the levels that requires your help. If you bring her to the end of the cave, she will grant you one kiss — which equates to one heart. Plus, she’s fun to use as a weapon.

As you progress, you’ll notice things get much, much harder. Especially once you change areas — I’ve only made it to the second area twice. It gets real tough.

But anyway, I think I’ve covered the gameplay enough… Let’s move onto audio. The sound effects in this game are charming. Very much similar in feel to the retro graphics that the game presents. The same can be said for the music. However, that unfortunately gets pretty repetitive after a few hours. It’s not that it’s bad music, it’s just that you’ll spend a lot of time in the first area, and the song for each area is always the same. It’s very well-made, but it gets to me sometimes to the point of me just muting it.

The graphics in this game are also quite nice. As I said, they’re retro graphics — very simplistic, not a huge amount of colours, and so forth. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. (Just look at Minecraft!) It fits the gameplay style very well, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

All in all, this game is amazing. It’s incredibly addictive, while maintaining a ruthlessly evil approach. You’re rewarded for experimenting, but harshly punished for the smallest of mistakes. Everything is incredibly well thought-out and executed, and the amount of polish in the gameplay is outstanding, especially for a free game.

This game tortures the hell out of you, and forces you to enjoy every second.
I’ve a good bit of the secrets up to you to find out. Whether you decide to acquire knowledge of them from another source is beyond my control, but allow me to advise against it — What I’ve provided here has been, by my discretion, required for the review. However, allow the game to surprise you. Half the fun is not knowing how the game will react, and whether or not you’ll end up dead. (Nine times out of ten, you will. Trust me.)
Due to the randomized levels and awesome feelings of accomplishment, the replay value on this one is also quite high. I’ve played for hours on end, and I haven’t gotten bored of it yet.

Perfect score.

10/10

Today, I started a subreddit (somewhat of a forum, little community, or category on Reddit) called the Indie Gaming Club. The idea is that, every week, we choose an indie game to play, and throughout the week we all discuss that game, leading to a review thread at the end of the week for everybody to sum up their opinions and place a number on how much they enjoyed the game. You see, it works sort of like a book club, except with videogames, so it’s better.

I feel that, if this takes off, it will be an incredibly fun way to help indie games gain exposure, as well as something to look forward to every week. The idea is that the games we play should be either free or cheap, so that almost everybody can join in. Every week, we’ll hold a voting thread — the game idea with the most upvotes will be the indie game we play for the week.

As of now, we have 48 members. Click here to join in on the festivities and discover some awesome indie games. Get the word out… There are a lot of underappreciated indie games out there that lots of us haven’t even had the chance to play yet. It’s a diluted market with such a low barrier for entry (a computer and some coding skills), but there are some gems out there.

The games currently in the voting thread are as follows;

Minecraft, which… Well, if you’ve been to Gamerblast, Reddit, or any gaming community recently, you should know what this is. Ultimate sandbox experience.

Stranded 2, which is a free game where you’re stranded on an island and must survive. There is an “Adventure” mode, with set missions, and a sandbox mode, where you can do whatever. (Well, you still have one set objective, which is to survive, as it is a survival game. But the rest of it is up to you.)

Lugaru, an awesome hand-to-hand combat game. It’s described on the webpage as a “third-person action game,” but most of the time, you’ll be doing some hand-to-hand combat, and it’s a lot of fun. (You already own a copy if you bought the Humble Indie Bundle.)

Delve Deeper, a turn-based strategy game, focusing around combat and mining. There’s a demo on the site, which is good fun.

Hero Core, which is… Uhh… I’m not quite sure. It’s free, though, so I’ll figure that out soon.

Spelunky, an action-adventure game where you’ll spend your time exploring caves, “collecting treasure, saving damsels in distress, and dodging traps.” (Taken from the Wikipedia entry.)

And last but not least, Angela’s World, a game that is apparently quite short, but looks pretty neat. (One of the developers, the one who posted it on Reddit, said “Average game play session should be about three minutes, unless you are going after the achievements or online high scores.”)

That’s it for now, but the list will (hopefully) continue growing until next week, when we will choose the first game that we play. Don’t miss it — this is gonna be fun.

Today, as promised, Steam was released for Mac OS X. I downloaded it as soon as I could, and I’ve been using it since. My first observation: It’s pretty optimized for the system. For me, it’s taking up 68.1MBs of RAM, while Chrome takes up 97.2MBs. Sure, it takes up a bit more RAM than Tweetie or VLC, but it takes up less memory than I expected.

Once I got into the meat of the application, I realized this is exactly what we’ve been waiting for. It’s… Well, it’s Steam. I instantly logged into my account and noticed that I can’t yet download any of my games other than Portal. (I also have other Source-based games, such as Counter-Strike: Source, all of Half-Life 2, and Team Fortress 2, among others.) Bit of a bummer, but I’m happy to get something running.
Looking into the store, there is a Mac category with a good bit of great games (such as Torchlight and Braid) available for purchase. It’s nice to see they’ve already set this all up.

Speaking of great games, Portal runs pretty well. There are some performance glitches (occasional framerate issues as well as a really long opening loading time) that make me think that this is truly still in beta, but all in all it’s not that bad (and it would probably run better if I brought down the graphic preferences, but I don’t feel like loading up the game just to do that. Again, the loading time is pretty horrendous).
Oh, almost forgot to mention. If you don’t already own Portal, you can get it for free Mac or PC until May 24th. Free. For keepsies. If you’ve never tried Portal, you should… Especially now that it’s free. It’s easily one of the most inventive and amazing games I’ve ever played (and is actually my favourite game of all time, tied with Diablo II). More information about the “Portal = free” stuff here.

Some people are a bit irked that there’s not a platform-specific UI. Personally, I don’t mind. I think the Steam UI is brilliant, regardless of what OS you’re running it on. Looks great, functions well, and… Lets us play videogames. So deal with it.

Plants vs. Zombies currently is the most popular download at the Itunes store and for good reason. The game was released in February of this year, and in this short period of time became the number one downloaded App in the App store, the number one downloaded game at the Itunes store and is the number one paid application on average. In other words; the game is Apple’s top item and bestseller all around! This being said, I think the popular game is going to take a shot at becoming the most popular zombie arcade game in history.

The game itself is simple enough to get the hang of, but it’s addictive qualities are quite amazing, in fact, since its proven success, lots and lots of new games are coming out, copying the game’s gaming system, adapting it to their own variant of the game. It is starting to look very much like Tetris all over again! Strictly speaking, the Zombie game can be categorized as a Tower defense game. There are plenty of those to play already, but the twist Plants vs. Zombies uses to set the game apart from the rest is that instead of using all kinds of missiles, arrows, or other projectile shooting weaponry, the Zombie survival game uses plants to accomplish the same task, which is; keeping the waves of zombies at bay. There are several types of plants(49 to be precise), each with their own unique capabilities either for defensive or offensive purposes. Like other Tower defense games, the plants have to be placed strategically in order to provide protection from the undead creatures, who will invade your house if they break through. Upon being successful in keeping the bloodthirsty zombies at bay, sunshine points are gained, with which more and different types of plants can be purchased.

Game play – Rating: 9/10

As the game advances, it will become harder and harder to stop the Zombies in their tracks, and a player will need all of his strategic skills for keeping the zombies from breaking through. Using the right plants in a good defense/offence combination, will do that job. There are 49 types of plants to choose from, which are shaped to make it easy to remember which plant does what in terms of offensive or defensive capabilities, and because the level of difficulty increases very slowly, players will have plenty of time to master the basics and enable themselves to maximize the usage of the plants.

Despite its unique features, Plants vs. Zombies has all the advantages arcade games have over regular games. Rounds play within minutes, and after a round is played the game can be left alone, and picked up at a later time, making it a perfect game for all intends and purposes, whether you want to play a few quick rounds during a break, or sit down with a cup of java and put in a few hours of quality gaming. Plants vs. Zombies will deliver.

As the player enters the higher levels, the game gets harder, and the playing fields will also become more complicated, making it harder to defend.

Graphics and Sound – Rating: 7/10

Technically Plants vs. Zombies is a zombie killing game, but the style it uses, to do this is funny, cartoonish and there is no blood at all. Watching zombies get dismembers, arms fall, without the accompanying blood that is almost mandatory in a zombie game, works more for making the zombies cute, rather than frightening. Perhaps the youngest should refrain from playing, but overall the game is pretty much harmless, and suitable for all audiences.

The plants are functionally shaped and colored, making it easy to remember their uses, and all the different zombies are easy to recognize. Shielded zombies are tough to kill, those without are easy. It’s all very functional, though never graphically challenging. In other words the graphics are adequate and serve their purpose, but no more than that. A game like this, does not rely on being graphically attractive, it relies on sheer addictiveness, because it is simply a lot of fun, to test your strategical abilities and find out if you are smart enough to keep the zombies from your doorstep.

As with the graphics, the sounds of the game are the same way. Functional, adequate, but nothing to write home about.

Overall – Rating: 9/10

Overall the game has turned out to be a very entertaining Zombie arcade game in the Tower defense category, with highly addictive qualities, that are typical for games in the genre. The version I tested was made for the Ipod and Iphone, but the game is available for free on most platforms like PC, handheld and Ereaders. It basically plays on anything capable of making an Internet connection. Judging by its popularity I think it is safe to assume that many of you already played a few round of the game, but if this is not the case I highly recommend for you to do so, because you are missing out on some good old fashioned arcade fun!

13 more days in Hell is the sequel to the popular 13 days in Hell arcade shooting game. The first was a quite impressive shooting game, where the player had to survive wave after wave of lost souls out for blood. This new installment in what will become an excellent franchise, no doubt, is something quite different, and improves upon many aspects the original was lacking. However, this new installment is not without its flaws either, but overall 13 more days in Hell is an excellent game, that is well worth spending some time with.

Where the first 13 days of Hell was only a shooting game, that would only require you to aim shoot and reload, the new installment entails much more and is a full fletched first person shooter, that looks and sounds every bit as uncanny as the famous Doom PC games. In 13 more days of Hell you will walk through a maze of corridors and hallways, guided by a guardian who also doubles as the store sales man, where you can buy ammo, weapons and health potions during the game(And you will need them!). weapons and ammo can also be found through the levels, and like with the first game the number keys allow you to select the various weapons, provided that you have them in your arsenal.

Sound – Rating: 8/10

The sounds in 13 more days of Hell are minimal, yet very effective. The sounds are simply integrated into the atmosphere adding to the tension, which is the same kind that provided so much excitement in the early Doom games. Throughout every step of the way a player will have the same eerie feeling that an undead creature may jump him at every corner, and usually they will. While the maze of corridors and hallways is large, the sounds and looks will at times make a player feel slightly claustrophobic, which is exactly the feeling one should have when walking through an area, knowing creatures can and will pop up from anywhere. The sounds of the different guns are well done also. A gun sounds like a gun and a gun with silencer will sound as such. Overall, the sound effects are very well done, without overdoing it. For example, when a player uses a health potion, you hear him sigh in relief, as the bar becomes full again. 13 more days of Hell definitely is not a game, with your average sound effects, that plague so many other flash games.

Graphics – Rating: 7/10

The graphics are well designed, especially the surroundings. Like with the sounds, much thought has gone into designing the hallways and corridors, creating the perfect atmosphere for a Doom like first person shooter game. The creatures themselves are adequate, but in that area there is room for improvement, as they often look a little blurred. Of course one cannot expect graphics like Far Cry yet from a flash game, but they still can be a little better than they are in 13 more days of Hell. Looking at the game in general one can’t escape the impression that most of the thought and detail has gone in to the surroundings, and the lost souls were simply ported in from the original game. The guardian looks crisp and very detailed, but does not move, which is another minor drawback from the game. It’s not a big thing, and certainly does not take away from the game, but it is one more detail, that could be improved upon to make the game feel just that little bit more realistic. One little detail I also was sorry to see go, was the eerie reddish mist they used in the original game, where the undead creatures would emerge from. Adding that to the new game would in my opinion be the crown on the project, and would have given the whole game that finishing touch. Perhaps this will be a good suggestion for part 3.

Game Play – Rating: 8/10

The game plays, looks and feels very much like the first two Doom games, or Castle Wolfenstein for that matter. The controls are similar, just like the well known current FPS games, like Counterstrike, Far Cry and the others. “W” to walk forward, “A” for walking to the left, “D” to go right and “Z” to walk backwards. The mouse is used to turn, aim and shoot. The number keys are used to switch weapons. And the space-bar is used to reload. To anyone that has ever played a first person shooter game, this should be very familiar territory. In addition to the well known keys there is the “H” key that obviously stands for health, and if in possession of a health position is used to restore the hero’s health.
It’s all very intuitive and will take the average gamer less than 2 seconds to master.

So, have we got a perfect game here, game play wise? No, like with everything else in this game the game play is good but there certainly is room for improvement. A player is able to turn to all sides, using the mouse, but cannot look up or down, something that is very common in other first person shooter games. This is something 13 more days in Hell also has in common with the first Doom and Wolfenstein games. The first versions of the FPS gaming genre, also lacked that feature. Again this is nothing major, and won’t keep you from having loads of fun with this game, but having the feature, makes it just this much more realistic, while playing. The same goes for the inability to jump or crawl. It is not necessary for this game, but being able to do so, makes movements that much more natural and real. Also the limits of the small flash screen take away from the game play, as it makes movement not as natural and swift like we are used to while playing Doom full screen. This can be easily solved by playing the game full screen, provided the arcade site you are playing on offers this feature.

Re-Playability – Rating 7/10

As far as replay value goes on flash arcade games, it is usually the addictiveness that holds the attraction, but once all levels have been conquered, the game loses its attraction, and it’s off to another game, to kill some time with. This is certainly not the case with 13 more days in Hell. This game is a whole different beast, and with its Easy, Medium and Hard settings, it will keep you coming back for at least 3 more rounds, after you have finished the last level. In fact it will be hard to compare this game with most arcade games, as it looks, feels and plays like a fully fledged first person shooter, that does not have to shy away, next to famous titles like Doom I and II, Castle Wolfenstein and even next to the ground breaking Quake I. Of course, it lacks features especially Quake I already possessed, but it comes close, so close, FPS developers, should start getting worried, as Flash games are catching up at an amazing rate.

Conclusion

13 more days in Hell, has turned out to be an excellent sequel to a game that was great, but no more than that. With this latest installment the creators truly show what they can do when they set their mind to it, and though there is room for improvement, one cannot help but be amazed about what they managed to do with a flash game, that requires no lengthy installs, downloads but simply plays from your browser. 13 more days is a fun game that will provide you with hours of good clean gaming fun, bringing back the days we played doom on our 386 personal computers, preferably with the lights turned off in order to gain a greater shock effect. Currently, 13 more days in Hell is one of the best zombie games available on flash arcade sites. Looking at the way the game has evolved, I for one cannot wait until the third installment will be released, and hopefully they will manage to amaze us once again with an FPS game that comes even closer to the ones we are used to playing today. From the looks of it, I think it won’t be long now, until we see the first flash FPS multi player game.

Overall – Rating 8/10

13 more days in Hell, has turned out to be quite a surprise. After having played the original game, I expected more of the same, perhaps with other characters thrown in the mix, but nothing could have prepared me for this sequel, that is more like a recreation of the game, and this time the way it should have been. All the elements that make for a great FPS are there, and save from a few minor factors that do not take away from the gaming fun, they have come close to releasing a perfect game as far as I am concerned. I rate it 8 out of 10, and if they continue developing down this road I expect to be able to rate even higher when the next installment will be released.

A new Call of Duty game has just been released! Don’t get excited, though — It’s not being put out by Activision. It’s not even developed by Treyarch or Infinity Ward. Hell, it isn’t even in the third dimension!

A second-dimensional, platforming remake of the popular “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ has hit the ‘net today. It boasts a total of five minutes of gameplay (seriously). While this is quite a short game, you’ll be participating in several different types of combat.

The gameplay video (embedded below) should give you a good idea of this game. In fact, the video contains every part of the game. It’s just edited to include a little bit of each part and give you a taste of how the levels are transferred to this new medium.

I haven’t been able to try this yet, seeing as how it isn’t available on Mac OS X, but it’s definitely interesting and something to look at. It is freeware, and it’s made by an indie developer. So if you’re into this kind of stuff, give it a look. Looks pretty fun.

Actually looks to me like it’s made by Gamemaker. Thought this as soon as I saw it (friend of mine used to use Gamemaker all the time), it was also evidenced by the fact that the download is hosted on YoyoGames’ website, who own Gamemaker and host community-made games.

A lot of the graphics are fairly detailed for a 2D platformer. And I really like games like this, so I’m gonna have to boot up my PC sometime soon. Enough of this gathering dust, it’s gaming time!
Give it a look here.

Command & Conquer is a popular series of real-time strategy games that has an upcoming release. To ease the pain of the fans worldwide, the developers have chosen to make an older game in the series, Tiberian Sun, completely free. You can download it from their website.

Personally, I’ve never checked this series out, aside from their iPhone installment. That game’s amazing, though, so I imagine that a game from that series would be even better on a bigger screen with more precise controls, so this is something I’ll definitely be checking out.

The game also has an expansion, titled “Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun – Firestorm.” Firestorm lengthens the campaign mode, giving you more bang for your nonexistent buck.

All in all, this game looks pretty great, and for free, you really can’t go wrong. For me, though, it will be easing the pain of the upcoming Starcraft 2 more than any new Command & Conquer games.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has recently been announced. Hype for the game has been building steadily, and I’m personally incredibly excited for its imminent release.

The original Sonic games for the Nintendo Genesis were my childhood addictions. I played the crap out of every single one of those games, then went back and played them again. As soon as the series broke out into the third dimension, I felt that it had lost its roots and I had completely lost interest.
Well, Sonic Team… You have my interest once again.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (herein simply “Sonic 4″) is a game with a release date of “Summer 2010″ that returns the series to its two-dimensional glory, with spiffy, shiny, 3D-esque graphics. While I slightly resent their choice to spiffify the graphics, I’m incredibly excited for the retro gameplay.

This game has been announced as a download for four platforms: Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and a mystery device. The mystery device has been speculated to be the iPhone, which would be absolutely amazing.

I think this move shows that the Sonic Team knows that they need to reach back out to their older fans instead of making room for new younglings. This really shows that they may want to change their ways and move toward more traditionally regressive gameplay, which, oddly enough, is a fantastic thing here.
Unfortunately, they seem to be sticking to their new ways in some terrible areas… For instance, Doctor Eggman is still the name of the main protagonist. This is absolutely TERRIBLE! I want Robotnik back! Whoever renamed him Eggman needs to be canned immediately. I am incredibly excited about them moving back to two-dimensional gameplay, but the name Eggman just infuriates me. It makes me cringe in a “my childhood memories are ruined” kind of way.

But I digress. This game looks fantastic. This series is taking back its focus on speed and arcade-style fun, and they have tons of supporters. One thing I’m really glad about is that they didn’t make it 2.5-dimensional, in that it’s sidescrolling, but you can move up and down on the terrain as well as back and forth (vis-à-vis Battletoads). They’re completely taking us back to the days of the original trilogy.
Oh, and did I mention it’s episodic? No? Well, it is! That means that the game coming up for a summer release is just the first in a series of episodes. A whole series of brand-new old-styled Sonic games, coming to our homes. I am absolutely giddy. I’ll be purchasing this game for download on every single console that is available that I have. Twice.

Just thinking about this game is making my stomach knot up in nostalgic excitement. Unless that’s hunger. Regardless, it’s good, and it’s caused by this game. Watching the trailer (below), even with as little gameplay as it has, makes me incredibly excited. I’ve watched it 20 times, at least. Even the codename of the game (“Project Needlemouse”) makes me chuckle to myself every time I think about it.

This game is a release of epic proportions, especially with the hype. It’s an homage to all of the Sega Genesis-aged fans who sigh in discontent every time they hear about a new upcoming Sonic game. Sometimes, returning to the old ways is the best thing to do.

If the wait is killing you, and you’ve gotta get your hands on some hedgehog action now, play some free Sonic games online. Some of them are really original and entertaining.
More news on this as it happens. Expect a review when it’s available. I’ll be one of the first in the virtual line to get my hands on this.

GridWars 2 is a clone of the popular Xbox Live Arcade game, Geometry Wars. It runs on Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows. And it’s totally free.

If you are a fan of Geometry Wars, this is worth a look. It has strikingly similar visuals and gameplay. Only downside is the lack of variety… It has but one gametype, which is just to kill as many enemies as you can to rank up points.

The game can be played with a controller (or “joypad”), keyboard, mouse, or a hybrid control scheme that incorporates both the keyboard and mouse. Obviously the controller is your best bet here, but I find the keyboard control scheme quite playable.

Again, definitely worth a look if you’re a fan of Geometry Wars. I won’t write a review on it, because it’s really quite a simple game, but it’s totally free, so you’ve got nothing to lose, and you can play it no matter what OS you run.

Equal opportunity gaming, what does that mean? Well, you know all those zombie blasting sport car racing games designed with boys in mind? There are also tons of girls games designed to keep girls busy for hours on end. Dress up games, make over games, cooking games, decorating games, Hannah Montana games and Bratz games are just some types of popular girls games. If I were to keep listing the amount of different type of Girls Games it would take all day. Sometimes it can be hard to find some of these games, but at places like AddictingGirlsGames.com they specialize in providing you with girls games that are fun, free and… did I mention fun? So where should you start you ask?

Dress Up Games

Some of the most popular games out there designed for girls are dress up games. For girls who love to play dress up this seems almost natural, it’s faster, easier, and you have more clothes in your virtual closet. Fashion Designer New York is one of the most popular dress up games out there. Imagine, the designers of the game, have actually created a very successful version on the Nintendo DS, selling more than most ps3 games.

Makeover Games

Another similar series of girls games is something called Makeover Games. This is where you take someone and…well make them over. In some cases you makeover generic iconic figures, but in most you will be making over someone famous. Like Rihanna for example, have you ever wanted to give her a new look? Well someone did, and they created Rihanna Makeup Game. A makeover game in which….you guessed it, you makeover the popular singer, with many options and looks to go for.

Try to recreate this!

Cooking Games

Cooking Games are another type of Girls Games, usually requiring a bit of timing skill and some cognitive thinking; you have to decorate, bake and whatever else cooking entails. A lot of these games seem to focus on the baking side of things, like in The Hey Girls Muffin Maker game. Where you use an assembly line to decorate a series of muffins, unlocking actual recipes as you complete the levels. And in some cases, make the messiest batch of muffins you’ve ever seen.

Hannah Montana Games

And the last type of game I will be going over in this article, Hannah Montana games. Needs no real introduction, but in case you have been in a coma for the past few years, she is one of the biggest Disney stars and thus has a large collection of games with her as the star. There are Hannah Montana dress up, makeover games, trivia games, treasure hunts and more and Hannah Montana is the star in all of these girls games. In Hannah Montana Rock Star Fashion Challenge you get to see a picture of Hannah Montana and must recreate the image before her limousine arrives.

These are just a few of the tons of Girls Games out there. Decorating games, Coloring Book games, Animal games, and Puzzle games, and many more are available and designed specifically for girls.
