Apple’s iPad (Tablet) Follow Up – Gaming Device?

Posted by Connor On January - 28 - 2010

Earlier in the week, I posted an article about the Apple tablet (unannounced at the time), and about whether or not it would be a gaming device.
Well, it was announced yesterday, with the name for release in 60 (now 59) days. But still, the question remains — Is it a gaming device?
The verdict?
Well, yes, but not any more than the iPhone is a gaming device.

It’s really all up to the third-party developers to bring content to these devices, via the App Store. Apple didn’t seem to go out of their way to mention its gaming capabilities, though they did demo some upcoming iPad games (and upscaled iPhone games). As expected, they brought several game companies on stage during the keynote (including Electronic Arts and Gameloft) to showcase what they’ve come up with for the device in just the two weeks that they’ve known about it.

It’s looking pretty good, to be honest. The bigger screen allows for more customizable controls and more screen retail to see the little details and so on. I think that this will be a fairly successful device in the gaming area, as well as other things. Again, though, it’s all up to the developers. If they want to make games for it (which they most likely will), then it can be a gaming device.
